Pinnacles National Monument Hike
Went on a quick 12 miles hike at Pinnacles National Monument. Wish we actually saw some Condors. Apparently they have been reintroducing them into the wild here.

The caves are definitely worth checking out. I think a lot of people miss the Lower Bear Gulch Caves and hike around. Don't miss them! Overall a beauty hike.

Point Reyes Hike
Hiked from Bear Valley down to Arch Rock in Point Reyes this weekend. The Sky Trail was really amazing. Great views in every direction and incredibly tall tress. It was a pretty nice hike, except for coming back up Bear Valley Trail, too flat and boring.

Black Bears and Half Dome
This past weekend some friends and I drove to Yosemite to hike up Half Dome. This wasn't the first time I'd hiked to the summit of Half Dome. We had done it last year around the same time, but this hike is worthy of more than one trip. The hike is approximately 17 miles round trip. Most estimates put it at anywhere from 10-12 hours to complete. Cables are put up in order to reach the steep summit in late May and taken down in October. At 8842', the elevation increase is 4800', from Yosemite's Valley Floor.

First Post

So I set up this account on Blogger months ago and never got around to making any posts. I thought I'd try to get things started and see how long I can remain devoted to actually posting random things.
My name is Daniel Poulsen...I am Canadian...and I am a graduate student chemist at UC Berkeley in California.
I guess this blogging thing isn't really new to me. Although highly unlikely, you may know me from www.chillinrecords.com (RIP), a mock record label website I started with a friend, Jason Young many years ago. It started as a place where we could post music we were recording. The site went through a number of face-lifts in attempts to keep it relevant but eventually I figured I couldn't afford the expense considering I was only updating it once every few months. Near the end of it's lifetime it had essentially become my personal blog, although I tried unsuccessfully to keep most posts related to music in true record label fashion.
I hope someone finds this blog useful or at least slightly amusing. Cheers.
